Abundance

1)      In what situations do you most often experience greed? How do you handle these situations, both in the moment and later in reflecting on them?

2)      In what ways might the pursuit of material abundance drive any part of your life, such as your educational or professional goals?

3)      Read the parable of the rich man with his bigger and better barns in Luke 12:16–21. If you were to set this story in a contemporary context, what would replace the barns?

4)      If you were to point to one area of material excess in your life, what would that be?

5)      Describe a time when you longed for a certain material item and finally acquired it. What happened next?

6)      T.S. Eliot’s describing his culture as “decent godless people / Their only monument the asphalt road / And a thousand lost golf balls.” What specific images would you use to symbolize the culture you live in?

7)      In what ways does the word abundance describe or not describe your life?

8)      What are some specific steps you could take to help you focus on God’s abundance?
